CHAPTER: 001: Introduction

Much of the information was obtained from a sheet based upon research
done by Kermon Thomasson and Philip C. Stone. This sheet was
obtained by Elizabeth Stone Maddox and passed on to other
researchers. Much of the other information was collected by Elizabeth
Stone Maddox who passed it on to Lorraine Joy who passed it on
in turn to the author.
Some of the first names need to be explained.
Micajah in the Bible was a prophet in the time of Ahab: see I Kings
22:8-28. While the King James Version gives the spelling as Micaiah
the name is the same and may have been spelled Micajah in some early
printings.
Manoah in the Bible was the father of Samson: see Judges 13:2-25.
Of great importance to the early Stone family was the name Eusebius
which was spelled in hundreds of different ways. The men who had
Eusebius for a first name were usually called by such shortened forms
as Sabe or Seb. The name Eusebius is pronounced correctly by
pronouncing the following four english words in succesion: you, see,
be, us. However it may be spelled in the records, the spelling
Eusebius is correct.
The name Eusebius comes from the great church historian and bishop who
is commonly called Eusebius of Caesarea. He was born in Palestine in
the city of Caesarea about the year A.D. 260 and lived until 339. As a
young man in Caesarea he was taught by Pamphilus who had established a
school of theology and a large library there. In 314 Eusebius was
consecrated Bishop of Caesarea. He was a friend of Constantine who was
the first Roman emperor to become a christian. Eusebius with Emperor
Constantine presided over the Council of Nicaea in the year A.D. 325.
Eusebius is most generally known as the author of THE ECCLESIASTICAL
HISTORY which was a history of Christianity upto his own time.

CHAPTER: 002: Nicholas Stone, the Sculpter

The following information is from Andrea Alonso.
Andrea Alonso F. -
Nicholas Stone, the sculptor, had sons Henry Stone died 1653 Nicholas
died 17-SEP-1647 a few weeks after his father John Stone died 1667,
buried 11-SEP-1667 St.Martin in the Field. Samuel Stone son of John
born 1602. Samuel came to America and was associated with John Cotton
and Thomas Hooker in Massachusetts.

CHAPTER: 003: The Earliest Stone, Known

Nicholas Stone of Rugeley born 1587 died 1679 and lived in
Rugeley, Staffordshire, England. His wife was Jane Banister who
lived 1592-1625. Their son Richard Stone born 1620 died 1681 Rugeley,
Staffordshire, England married Dorothy born in 1635. They had a son
John Stone who immigrated to Virginia from England. He married
Mary O'Brissell whose father was Thomas O'Brissell from
Ireland in Middlesex Co, Virginia. Her grandfather who also came
over from Ireland was Eusebius O'Brissell. He is listed having
been buried on 07-MAR-1689 in the Parish Register of Christ Church of
Middlesex Co, Virginia.

CHAPTER: 004: Nicholas Stone the Quaker \N M.1703-1778
**********************************************************************
Nicholas Stone the Quaker is a well known person genealogically
because a fair amount of information is available about him from the
early day Quaker records of Virginia and North Carolina. He and his
family were members of the Cedar Creek Monthly Meeting of Quakers in
Hanover Co, Virginia. History records that this group of Quakers
strongly stirred up all of Virginia in favor of religious liberty and
then later in favor of anti-slavery. Both of these movements were at
their height just prior to the American Revolutionary War which began
about 1775.
Here are the known events regarding Nicholas Stone the Quaker in
the Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, Volume IV, Virginia.
11-JUN-1740, Nicholas Stone the Quaker, first has his name appear
in the records of Cedar Creek Monthly Meeting. The name of his wife,
Mary Diggs Stone, first appears on 27-JUN-1740.
10-MAY-1740 he gave 5"0 "shillings?" to help Quakers in London.

suffered seizure of his property for failure to tithe to the Church of
England.

CHAPTER: 005: William Stone of Caroline County, Virginia

William Stone of Caroline County was a son of John Stone and
Mary O'Brissell. He was born about 1700 and died about 1765. One
of the most important pieces of information about him is from the
Chancery Records of Caroline Co, Virginia.

Eusebius Stone, deceased by his executors: Edmund Pendleton
and Richard Segar, executors of the last will of Eusebius
Stone, deceased dated 10-FEB-1784 state that Eusebius Stone
left to his wife Dorothy ?? Stone, to John Pendleton, William
Johnson and John Sesar each as they came of age and the rest
to Eusebius Stone, son of Stephen Stone of Hanover Co.
Eusebius Stone, the heir, has sold the land to John Chapman
and has moved out of state.
