One source gives that John Crouch was born in Liverpool,
Lancaster, England.
John and Sarah moved through Stafford, Halifax and Henry Counties in
Virginia to Washington Co, Tennessee. They arrived in
Washington Co, Tennessee in 1781 or 1782. They were charter
members of Buffalo Ridge Baptist Church. Sarah's last name is
sometimes written as: Barbee.
Elizabeth Cloud had a first husband named Reverend John Fuller
Lane (1727-1785) whom she married in 1746 in Pittsylvania Co,
Virginia. She had eight children by him with the first names of: John
Dutton, Dorcas, Sarah, Jemima, Isaac, Tidence, Rhoda and Elizabeth. It
is told that John Fuller Lane was killed by a female slave who put
poison from a scorpion in his drinking water in 1785. He and his
brother Tidence Lane had settled in Washington Co, Tennessee on
Boone and Cedar Creeks in 1779.

John Crouch and Elizabeth moved to Claiborne Co, Tennessee to
be near her children in the Big Spring Baptist Church community. John

Isaac Newton Crouch,Sr was a Baptist preacher in early day Texas
and was killed by Indians. He was a good friend of Z. N. Morrell and
is mentioned on page 72 of the book FLOWERS AND FRUITS by Morrell. On
29-MAR-1834 Isaac Newton Crouch,Sr and Abner Smith formed the
first Baptist church in Texas, Providence Church. They were Primitive
Baptists. Another Baptist church had been formed in another state and
then moved to Texas, but Providence Church was the first to be formed
in Texas. Some of this information came from the book A HISTORY OF
TEXAS BAPTISTS by J. M. Carroll, page 124. There may be differences in
the page numbering due to different printings of the above two
mentioned books.
