CHAPTER: 002: Earliest Bains/Baines

First, here is a note on spelling of Bains/Baines. Prior to about
1850 a person's name was how it was pronounced, and the spelling was
of no importance as long as it was reasonably phonetic. After about
1850, a person's name was how it was spelled, irregardless of how it
was pronounced. The persons on this webpage have their name either as
Bains or Baines, but not both. Most of people were born prior to 1850.
One source suggests that James Bains came to Wilmington, Delaware
from Scotland in the early 1600's. He had two sons who moved to
Virginia and that the brothers, John Colson Bains and George
Bains, were descended from one of those two sons.
Another source gives that two brothers, George Bains and Richard
Bains, came to Virginia about 1653. Could these be the two sons of
the James Bains of above, and could one of them be the father of
Thomas Bains who is believed to be the father of George Bains
who is believed to be the father of the brothers, John Colson
Bains and George Bains.
This would give us the following descent chart if it were to work out.
Presume that the father of Thomas Bains is George Bains.
